As someone who is in awe of Lady Gaga's talent, I don't think she's as perturbed by the commentary on the modern pop music business as do you. I think she appreciates how the filthy fakery produced by most who run it gets in between artists, their audiences and ultimately the music.

And now that it's 2019, the pound me too hysteria has thankfully run its course. Not every one night stand (or really, morning after) is problematic, and it's perfectly okay to be romantic with someone even if your relationship might evolve into a professional one.

Are you seriously me-tooing a fictional character in a love story? The film is nuanced and brilliant, but you'll never truly appreciate it until you escape the shallow yourself.

Hey Grace this movie is directly derivative to 2013 Bollywood movie Ashiqui 2, only difference is alcoholic and druggist.

Gaga gave me a Debra Winger Urban Cowboy vibe in this movie. The Shallow scene was absolutely done perfect!

I really like how they both sing a song she just wrote that day, that he's heard once, and were able to harmonize and guess the lyrics on the first try. Can't you admit this is a remake of a remake or a remake.

I enjoyed your review and agreed with you on most points. My only strong disagreement with you is about the quality of the songs and music in this film. However, based on the way you expressed your thoughts I got the impression that maybe you aren’t heavily invested in the broad music scene today. IMO, these songs…all original and written specifically for this film by Gaga, Cooper, Mark Ronson and Lukas Nelson (son of Willie Nelson)…all contribute to the storyline which was their purpose. Bradley only used a portion of the songs they wrote, performed live and recorded in the studio for the soundtrack those songs which supported and furthered the story.

I understand that it seemed too long to you but considering that Bradley edited down from the original 7 hours to only 2 and a half without negatively impacted the strength of the various threads of the story I believe it is a manageable and pleasurable length to experience, immerse yourself in and saw very few moments that I felt were wasted.

Thanks for your very thoughtful, well organized and obviously knowledgeable, honest review! I appreciated very much that you presented arguments to support your points rather than the alt-too-frequent reviews I see here of people just stating either how wonderful or horrible they thought a movie was without any real justification to consider their opinion as valid and worthy of consideration.

I freaking loved the bathroom scene. She knew no one was there. I have known women that would totally do that. I didn't think of the length, but after the intense ending….yeah I wont be watching it again soon. I had never seen the originals so…I thought the sad ending was gonna be him getting messed up and not showing up or maybe messing her show. Then they would break up forever, I had no idea,…I was angry, really felt her when she punched the glass in the hall.

I sympathized with Gaga's character for most of the movie. Movie was overly long, but Gaga's performance herself was outstanding, it kept me engaged until the sad ending when I finally felt for Jackson Maine.

I disagree that she becomes less sympathetic particularly with the relationship conversation she has with him at the rehab clinic.
