Why would anyone use an apple watch for running? I saw some ppl straping their phone to their arm and using strava 😀 I was like what the heck??:D

Nice Video, I love your running videos. I was motivated to make my own Running YouTube channel.
I just got a PR , 6:01 mile and I'm 12. Keep up the good vids 🙂

Great app i use on Apple watch specifically for intervals and tempo runs is Intervals Pro. You can setup workouts similar to Garmin. Here is my Strava link, https://www.strava.com/activities/3214846190 to see my latest interval workout I did with Apple Watch and intervals pro. I also use another app called Run Gap that i use to send my apple watch workouts over to Garmin Connect.

I have the Nike Apple Watch and it’s a huge pain to stop and start track workouts I wish there was a button to do that on the side but the only button just brings me to a home screen

It might not pickup your heart rate because you didn’t put your age as at least 16+ – i had the same issue

Also as a consideration on price, you have to have an iPhone to use an apple watch, which is significantly more expensive than android

Great video Zach! I got 1 question and 1 hack:
Hack first: On the Apple Watch, you can skip the countdown by tapping the screen again which will start the workout immediately. Unfortunately you have to do it every time tho.
Question: Is there a way to sync your Garmin workouts back to the Apple ecosystem (making it count for your activity and rings)?

The Forerunner 245M is the best watch for running, period. Because it has buttons, it's precise, fast and has a lot of software updates. Lost mine in a trail race 🙁

Hobby jogger? Man that’s harsh. Two workouts a week during a 16 week training block and Apple Watch works just fine. It’s great actually. The Garmin (I had a 935) felt like I was back in the 80’s. Lol. To each his own tho

The Apple Watch is just a mini phone whereas the Garmin is a running watch.

I know the Apple Watch has an indoor run setting, but how does it monitor your distance on a treadmill? I’ve yet to see anyone on YouTube demonstrate this.

I use a heart rate chest monitor with the irunsmooth app and it works great, can also connect headphones and a footpod, to the apple watch.

I use the Apple Watch Series 4 because it easily put my runs on Starvia and its very comfortable on my wrist. And plus I am a big Apple guy I can't leave be loved Apple Products, but I would get the Garmin for my Track Workouts!!

My first running watch was an Apple Watch, it is a great watch, but as you said it just does not do well with workouts. So I went to eBay and bought a used Garmin 220 for $60 and that was one of the best purchases I have made. I solely wear my Garmin to run and that is it and I wear my Apple Watch the rest of the day.

One other thing software wise, you have almost no programmability on the Apple Watch where the garmin is fully customizable. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem except for that Strava’s distance tracker only goes to 1 decimal place, meaning that I wouldn’t have as good of an idea how much further I had to run. Other apps I tried on the Apple Watch had only options for average pace or were set up poorly.

My Apple Watch seemed to start bogging down the further I ran. Touch screen became slower. Pace was off. And it died around mile 20-30. Garmin met all my needs and stayed up to speed no matter where I was in the run.

I actually have both watches… yes I’m that person who sometimes wears two watches running please don’t judge. But I do want to let you know (if you don’t already) that if you double tap on the running screen on the Apple Watch it will create a “segment” that really helps during workouts! You can’t see the segments on the watch after they flash up after the tap but you can see them underneath your split times in the activity app on your phone. Hope this helps 🙂
