Ho Chi Minh, father of independent Vietnam, was a man of contrasts. Standing at just four foot, eleven inches and weighing less than a hundred pounds, he appeared to pose no threat to anyone. Yet, through the force of his personality and the steely determination of his will he defeated two of the world’s mightiest nations. He portrayed himself as a simple man of the people yet he ruled over a repressive regime that committed terrible atrocities. While many viewed him as the bringer of light to a repressed people, to others he was simply a Communist spy planted by the Soviets. In today’s Biographics, we discover the truth about the real Ho Chi Minh.

Despite the dubious moniker of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the nation has gradually developed a capitalist economy and has flourished. The Vietnamese have embraced the very principles that America, during the 1960's, had tried to give them.

Screw this guy! His ideology almost killed my grandfather's brothers. The Vietnam war killed over 50,000 Americans. Let alone his own people.

Very interesting. I didn't realise that Ho died a good 6 years before reunification. Hopefully the greatest Vietnamese Leader of our modern era, now rests in eternally peaceful enlightenment amongst his ancestors.

My only point of contention with this piece is why American continues to back france when France has been a self serving snob for hundreds or years. I recall a quote by the famous humorist Will Rogers. Upon reading a newspaper article about American tourists being stoned on the streets of Paris after WW1. Will rogers said the only way the French could hate us anymore was if we bailed them out of another war.

The Gulf of Tonkin, didn't happen. The event that brought us into the Vietnam war didn't happen. Robert McNamara the Secretary of State under Kennedy, and Johnson admitted that.
It was nothing but a false flag, so the military industrial complex could increase profits up to 6 times.

My aunt's husband blamed his nephew's death on Ho Chi Minh and blamed his Cousin's Death on the leaders of people overseas during world war II. The old people tell me how great war is and hate on the people who killed their family. The old people are the best liars in the world.

Ho Chi Minh should be thought of more as another one of histories monsters. Currently Vietnam has put massive trade sanctions on China to keep the US happy and to profit from the US-China trade war. The Vietnam war, or Ho's war was pointless for so many reasons, time would have solved there problems and cost so fewer lives.

..and after we Yanks left Vietnam, the Chinese invaded, and dang if they didn't get whupped too! That leaves the Vietnamese 3 and 0 in the 20th century! Not too shabby ! No doubt the price was high , but one must have great respect for their determination.

Video without knowing exactly much about Vietnam. Sometimes, I have heard about your video but this quality of video is low. For exampe: 1954, about One millions moved to the South was right but not escaped. Because they and their family were French's collaborators. South Vietnamese also moved to thr North, with your logic, Whether they also escaped from capitalism ? No. They moved to the liberation areas. Because France shall control temparorily South Vietnam until the total election held.
You have to study more about the time of French colony in Vietnam. You shall know who they (North Vietnamese moving to the South) were.
Good luck

"You mention that atrocities were committed on Ho Chi Minh's part but treat it as something only committed by him or by communism. If deaths are an atrocity then the capitalist landowners and colonialists re far far more guilty. When one is considering the scale if social, political and economic change taking place, there will be capitalist forces trying to stop it, so there must be a degree if control to protect the revolution. In white Europe, the revolutions that introduced the free market and democracy wee similarly violent during and after, but they get a free pass. This million people who moved south to "escape communism", why did they need to leave, you give no reason. These were wealthy capitalists who saw that they would lose their stolen and corrupt wealth under Ho Chi Minh and saw a way of keeping it under the corrupt, exploitative system if south Vietnam." – Ed Skeateds, the guy below –

The Vietnamese people will judge their leader whether his regime commit actrocities or not , no need a guys reading imperialist propaganda judge their leader. We Vietnamese( the majority 95 milions) respect and always remember him as the great leader of our country.
