JRE is an acronym for Java Run time Environment which basically provides the Java Virtual Machine, the libraries and other components to run java applets and applications.

It is updated from time to time by the Java team and thus developers are advised to keep their JRE up-to-date with the latest release available.

In this tutorial, we will teach you to check the jre version.

Step 1 — Use the java –version command

In order to check the jre version, open the command prompt, type “java -version” and then hit the enter key.

As a result, you will be displayed the version along with the build.

Step 2 — Compiler command

There is also another command that can be used for checking jre version.

Just type “javac –version” in the command prompt and then hit enter. The jre version would be displayed after that. These are some of the ways for checking jre version.
