March 28, 2020When doing tests like this, a tiny bit of salt in the water will give a better test. The reason is because pure water is an insulator. If you had pure distilled water and the phone was absolutely clean you could have it under the water forever and it would work under water. In order for water to be conductive, it needs ions to provide charge particles that can move. Normally in a wet phone, remnants of flux and other dirt provide the ions. If the phone is clean and the water is distilled, the test results won't match real world results. A very small amount of salt will provide the ions to turn water from an insulator to a conductor for the test.

March 28, 2020One of the reasons why I bought this phone was actually this IP rating – this feature is very unusual for a phone with this price. I already tried to use the phone while on heavy rain, nothing bad happened. I wouldn't risk soaking it in water though.

March 28, 2020If you ask me, if you wanna test a phone's durability do a drop test and a water test. Yes we already know that Gorilla Glass scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7, glass is glass and glass breaks, and scratching ANY phone (or any THING) with a razor blade will do it no good and no one burns their phone's screen with a lighter. In the real world though, phones die because they slammed hard or got wet.
