Madison Repertory Theatre delivers an early Christmas gift to Madison audiences this November with its premiere of Santaland Diaries, a witty and wickedly funny play based on essays by David Sedaris, one of America’s favorite humorists. Santaland Diaries chronicles Sedaris’ experiences working as an elf at Macy’s Department Store. Opening November 11th at Mitchell Theatre, this show features critically acclaimed Milwaukee actor John McGivern, star of the long-running smash hit Shear Madness.
“This is a perfect addtion to this city’s holiday entertainment options,” says Richard Corely, artistic director of Madison Repertory Theatre. “Sedaris’ humor appeals to everyone, especically those looking for a little sardonic twist to the season. And John McGivern brings every bit of that biting wit to brilliant life. We expect big crowds for this one.”
Sedaris is a favorite among Madison readers, as evidenced by the crowds who turned out to see him at a reading this past Spring. The New Yorker says, “David Sedaris has become one of the best-loved humorists of our time.” The Washington Post calls him, “shrewd, wickedly funny – one of America’s most prickly, and most delicious, young comic talents.” John McGivern, the star of Santaland Diaries, has become a must-see, sell-out star in Milwaukee at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. His smash hit shows include Shear Madness, Fully Committed, and The Odd Couple.
