This is a very old video, but today I own an a5000 and was wondering how much the higher models compare in low light situations. In your tests the results seem to be very similar, I was expecting to see some difference. I think maybe the way the test was performed could be changed. I suppose the reason both seem to perform equally might be you shot them with a low ISO and then increased the exposure later in post, so I guess maybe it's impossible to get a clean image this way since the darker area's details got lost at the encoding time, like, all dark areas below certain level got the same 0 value. I wonder wouldn't it have been a better test to try using a higher ISO, which as far as I understand works as an electronic gain from the sensor readings… sorry if I was not very clear at explaining my point, I've read some better written explanations about how ISO works in today cameras.

Great video and review! I have a5000, thinking of upgrade. A6500 was on Black Friday offer, but I think a5000 still has advantages over a6500 – size, value for money, flip screen (vlog.

I just got a sony a5000 and im comparing it with my smartphone xiaomi pocophone f1. Differences arent huge (maybe because im begginer) but im seeing a lots of stuff i could see with a smartphone. Its a pretty decent camera producing entry level dslr photos without paying a lot and without commiting to photography a lot. Auto modes are nice

Sony should have kept the "selfie" feature of the a5000 in the a6000. Sony, to this day, still has bad choices when it comes to the ability of moving the flip out monitor. Even their higher end cameras have a stupid tilt-up feature of the monitor. Most other manufacturers provide more choices for flipping out the monitors. Sony also has yet to release a camera with 10-bit recording capabilities. In today's world, more people are looking to DLSR's for film making. But, unless the camera shoots 10-bit, you're not going to have much power over your footage when it comes to post production.

By the way, 24p (and 30p and 60p) are available if you switch the cameras to "NTSC" mode (which you should do anyways – no idea why anyone would ever shoot "PAL" in the age of the internet and digital HD video).

Hey thanks for the great review. I've wanted to buy a mirrorless and you helped me rule the a6000 off of my list! Bulky and inconvenient, and they additional costs do not outweigh the negatives (compared to the a5000). In the end I'll probably go with the Nikon.
