‘Mother tongue’ is an interesting English expression. Like many languages, English has a number of gender-specific terms that don’t refer to gender-specific ideas and concepts. And this complicated relationship between language and gender is what Sam and Georgina are talking about in this programme.
This week’s question:
Which of these languages is the newest? Is it:
A: Esperanto
B: Afrikaans
C: Light Warlpiri
Listen to the programme to find out the answer.
Vocabulary:
primary caregiver
the person most responsible for looking after someone
point of origin

metaphor
a way to describe something by saying that it is something else with similar qualities
perceive

We should find a way to end discrimination. What will be the solution?
In Indonesia, people always perceive that working as civil servant in government sector is more prestigious than working as employee in a company.
In Indonesian, it's called "Bahasa Ibu".
Thank you, BBC. 💚
Interestingly in Chinese “mother tongue” is “母語” literally translates to “mother language “
Thank you

I love watching 6 minutes English with BBC. It's short and precise lesson but we'd gained a great deal of English in terms of vocabulary words, new phrases, pronunciation etc. I'm deeply appreciate it to all of you, to all of BBC crews. Keep it up your great work! 💪💖
Today video have not clear voice
We have 718 mother tongue or local languages in indonesia. Every people speak in their own language before learn bahasa indonesia as a national language. So english is a 4th or even 7th language to study in classroom system for 6 to 10 years.
But i think 93% indonesian students can't speak english fluently like native english speakers.
if you a non native speaker you'll strugle to learn foreign language like english. even many indonesian in rural area can't speak our national language.
Thank you
Thanks for your video. But I need your support in your application. There is no content on the app what I downloaded from Google Play. I dont know the reason why. Thank you so much.
